Liberty City

Liberty City is a historic Miami neighborhood rooted in the African-American community. Formed in the 1930s around the Liberty Square housing project, it grew into a thriving center of Black culture, churches, and small businesses.

Over time, economic challenges and disinvestment affected the area. Today, rising development and living costs are reshaping the neighborhood, creating tension between revitalization efforts and preserving Liberty City’s long-standing Black cultural identity.

Little Haiti

Little Haiti is a culturally rich Miami neighborhood rooted in the Haitian diaspora. Once known as Lemon City, it became a major hub for Haitian immigrants in the 1970s, growing into a center of Creole food, art, music, and community life.

Today it remains vibrant and full of Caribbean character, but rapid development and rising property values are putting pressure on longtime residents and small businesses. As the area changes, efforts continue to protect Little Haiti’s cultural identity and heritage.
